New Instructional Guidance on NHSN Re-Consent Process

The National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) team has published new instructional guidance on its website to help users complete the updated NHSN Agreement to Participate and Consent (referred to here as Consent). On the website, a five-minute video discusses the new Consent purposes and shows the simple process for electronically accepting the Consent. A step-by-step guidance document is also available on the website. This document provides screenshots for Facility Administrators and Primary Contacts of the re-consent process in the NHSN application.

Participating acute care facilities will need to re-consent for two components: Patient Safety (PS) and Healthcare Personnel (HCP) Safety. They are indicated below in the red box.

PLEASE NOTE: Once you have successfully consented to one component, you will need to return to the NHSN Landing Page to repeat the steps and consent to the second component.

A link to the video and the guidance document are found on the FAQs About NHSN’s Agreement to Participate and Consent webpage. As a reminder, the deadline for accepting the updated Consent is April 14, 2018, for all components. If you have any questions about the re-consent process, please email the NHSN Help Desk at nhsn@cdc.gov.
