Quality Improvement Initiatives and Other Technical Assistance Projects

The New England QIN-QIO is committed to assisting providers and practitioners improve the quality of patient care. We provide quality improvement assistance on a large scale at a systems level or on a smaller scale at an individual case level.

Quality Improvement Initiatives (QIIs) are formal activities that use proven methodologies to achieve improvement. QIIs include the use of evidence-based tools and resources, measurable interventions and proven methodologies. Through QIIs, we can help you:

  • identify the root cause of a quality concern
  • develop a framework for improvement
  • test the change, measure for improvement
  • adapt interventions for further improvement and spread
  • team building
  • regulation compliance
  • staff retention

These initiatives may involve providers, practitioners, patients with Medicare and communities. They improve patient safety, health care, population health and value of care.

We will work with you to devise measurable QIIs and monitor them for successful resolution.

Additional Information

Referrals to the New England QIN-QIO for provider and/or practitioner assistance with QIIs may originate from various CMS-approved sources, including the Beneficiary and Family Centered Care QIO (BFCC-QIO), KEPRO, if its case review confirms quality of care concerns. Other identified data-driven opportunities and specific provider or practitioner requests for technical assistance may also drive improvements.

KEPRO has been the Beneficiary and Family Centered Care Quality Improvement Organization (BFCC-QIO) in 33 states and the District of Columbia for the past five years and was recently awarded a new five-year contract by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) covering different states. Effective June 8, 2019, KEPRO will be the BFCC-QIO in New England.
