Preparing for new Joint Commission EPs effective July 1: Best Practices in Anticoagulant Therapy Webinar
April 2 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Effective July 1, 2019, eight new Anticoagulant Therapy elements of performance (EPs) within the National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG.03.05.01) go into effect for all Joint Commission-accredited hospitals, critical access hospitals, nursing care centers, and medical centers (accredited under the ambulatory health care program). A rise in adverse drug events associated with direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) led The Joint Commission to update this NPSG to address DOACs and help to reverse that trend. The Joint Commission has scheduled a two-part webinar series (April and May) to show best practices and to assist customers in answering questions about implementation ahead of the July 1 effective date.
Anticoagulation therapy remains a commonly prescribed and used class of drugs, but it is also a leading cause of avoidable severe medication related adverse events. This webinar series will address each of the proposed safety measures targeted for implementation and provide insights on implementing systems to health care settings to successfully achieve established targets. Experts from the Anticoagulation Forum, Scott Kaatz, DO, MSc, FACP, SFHM, Wayne State University and Henry Ford Hospital and William E. Dager, PharmD, BCPS (AQ-Cardiology), UC Davis Medical Center will present on the April 2 webinar session, the first of the two-part series. See the registration page for additional biographical information about our presenters. There will also be a live Q&A session.
